Vision, Mission, Values

We are a health and well-being service that has been designed by and for the trans and non-binary community in Jersey. To help guide us in our work and ensure that we meet the needs of our community, we have the following vision, mission and values.

 Our vision

This provides the inspiration for our work:

A holistic service that enables trans, non-binary, intersex and gender variant people to thrive through collaboration and partnership working.

Our mission

This outlines how we will achieve the vision:

We provide safe, timely and easy to navigate care pathways that meet the needs of those who use our services.

Our values

These are our guiding principles that are at the heart of everything we do. These statements describe the way in which we go about things and our behaviours. We live our values in everything we do.

Trans and non-binary people have a right to appropriate healthcare

We uphold Article 25 of the United Nations’ 1948 Universal Declaration of Human Rights: “Everyone has the right to a standard of living adequate for the health and well-being of himself and of his family, including food, clothing, housing and medical care and necessary social services.”

Trans and non-binary people are the experts of their own experience

Our services are informed by trans and non-binary experience. Trans and non-binary people guide and inform the service at all levels.

Support is person-centred

We recognise that there are as many ways to be trans and non-binary as there are trans and non-binary people in the world and we tailor our support to meet each person’s individual needs and choices within current, applicable health care regulations and guidance.

We support trans and non-binary people to be well-informed about their choices by sharing knowledge, explaining options, promoting health, and trusting people to make decisions that are right for them. We work within current, applicable health care regulations and guidance to ensure that our care is safe.

Knowledge sharing

We share our knowledge and best practice with other services, showing leadership and empowering them to better meet the needs of the trans and non-binary community. We keep up to date with latest evidence-based research and guidelines, and where this does not conflict with current, applicable health care regulations and guidance we will implement changes to follow leading best practice.

Care is delivered locally

Trans and non-binary people are supported to access the full range of services available to them in Jersey and, where care is not available in Jersey, we support them to make informed decisions and choices about their care off-island.

We take a multidisciplinary approach to care

We bring together knowledge and expertise from different fields and backgrounds to ensure our service delivers the highest quality care available to us at the time for trans and non-binary people.

Confidentiality

We recognise that coming out in your own way and in your own time as trans or non-binary on a small island can be particularly challenging. Client confidentiality is extremely important in all that we do and we seek to protect client identity at all times. We operate in the most discreet way possible with no signage identifying our offices as a gender clinic.
